We earned another star today for our behavior and earned a class celebration!
Our class voted to bring a favorite stuff animal to school tomorrow! Please help your child find a stuff animal that will fit in his/her backpack!
Also, your child can bring a towel to sit on for our picnic tomorrow!

April 28

Dear Families,
We worked on making complete sentences. (Alyssa)
We are focusing on our handwriting and writing letters correctly.
In math we reviewed positional words like up, down, above, and next! (Xianna)
This afternoon we observed our guppies! (Chanakya)
We drew our observations in our science journals!

News/Reminders:
Progress reports will go home on Thursday for ACADEMIC concerns only. At this time of the year, we are seeing a lot of BEHAVIOR concerns. Please talk to your child about behavior expectations. Your support and reinforcement are greatly appreciated.

We finished the week talking and reading books about the Earth!
We wrote a pledge on how we can help the Earth!

We heard a story called One Love.
We found out it was a song that was written into a book for us to read.
We finished a sentence about helping the Earth. (Ja'Von)
In writing workshop we practiced our Earth day song! (Eboni)
In math we reviewed using pattern blocks. (Matt)
We identified and discussed Earth problems!
We watched Dr. Seuss' The Lorax video about saving the trees! (Khai)

Dear Families,
Happy Earth day!
Today we wrote our last sentence about helping the Earth in our booklets! (Ester)
We practiced our Earth Day litter song and even got to sing it to Ms. Zemanek! (Xianna)
She was very impressed!
We sorted some of the items we brought from home that can be recycled. (Chanakya)
Then we made a graph of our recyclable items! 
We used our recyclables to make a "litter" bug! These turned out so cute! (Xianna)
They are outside on display in our Litter Bug Gallery!
We went to the ABLL lab and got to try our new exercises! (Joshua)

Dear Families,
Today we wrote another complete sentence in our Earth day booklets. (Colton)
Mrs. Pandov recorded us singing our Litter song! (Min)
We hope to share it with you at our upcoming picnic!
We played I Spy Shapes today in math. (Miguel)
We are reviewing the names of 2D and 3D shapes!
We read a story about the world and then made our own litter bags! (Aairel) 
Please have fun going on a family walk and picking up trash around your neighborhoods!

Dear Families,
I had to leave a little early for a teacher training so I am sending you our email!
We made a book about Earth Day that we are taking home today.
We started writing in our new booklets about ways we can help the Earth.
We practiced singing our Earth day song about litter!
We found a way to make shapes using our bodies!
We also worked on checking if addition problems were correct. Some of the problems added incorrectly.
We talked about Earth day and why we recycle!

Dear Families,
Today was a good day!
We practiced sounding out words that ended with -ug and -un!
We read a new non-fiction book about wind. It shared some cool wind experiments we could try!
We wrote what we would do if we were kites! This was fun!
We had another Jr. Achievement class with Mrs. Bird!

We read a non-fiction book this morning about kites. (Matt)
We learned new facts about kite!
We completed a sentence about the wind and drew an illustration. (Lily)
We played a sorting game called What's My Rule? Fishing Game! (Khai)
We went to library today since library will be closed tomorrow! (Do)
We made a wind sock this afternoon! (Nicole)

News:

1. Today notes about 1st grade transition night are going home! Please read these notes for information about next year!
2. We still have about 7 students that have not returned permission slips for our fieldtrips. Please send these promptly. Students can not attend our fieldtrip without them.
3. Spring picture order forms are going home today! If you want to purchase pictures, please fill out and return promptly.

Dear Families,

Today we found objects that blew in the story The Wind Blew and made a bulletin board.(Dillan)

We practiced using our word wall to write words and sentences. 

We talked about ways we can sort money.

1. Please remember to send BOTH permission slips to school promptly! One if for our Zoo fieldtrip and the other is for a fieldtrip to Jenks East Middle school to see a puppet show. There is also a note with more Zoo information regarding lunch options and chaperone information. Please fill the bottom portion and return with the permission slips! We do not need chaperones for the puppet show fieldtrip. This trip is a little longer than an hour and Ms. Faith will be with our class.IF YOUR CHILD IS NOT COMING ON OUR FIELDTRIPS, please write that on the form but please still return! 
2. Transition night for incoming 1^st graders will be May 7th in building F Media from 6:00-6:45.  A letter with more information will be going home soon!    

April 14

Dear Families,
Today we read the story The Wind Blew.
It was about things that moved in the wind! (Miguel)
We practiced writing complete sentences using our word wall! (Gage) Remembering capitals at the beginning, spaces between words, ending marks, and neat handwriting was our focus.
We talked about sorting in math. (Jesus) We have new color sorting tubs in our math center to help us practice sorting!
We ended our day reading a non-fiction book about wind and coloring pictures of things the wind is moving. (Cerenity)

News:
2 Permission slips are going home today! One if for our Zoo fieldtrip and the other is for a fieldtrip to Jenks East Middle school to see a puppet show. April 10

Dear Families,
Today was a good day!
We cleaned out our crayon bags! Now at every table we have 2 bins of crayons for tables to share! Thanks to Kim Cox for donating boxes of crayons to our class! The kids were so excited to get them!
We practiced reading in our book nooks!
We practiced our kindergarten sight words! Please continue to use flashcards at home to give your child more practice as needed!
We wrote about spring!
In math we looked at shapes and described their attributes!
We had another Jr. Achievement lesson today!
We did not go to library because the library was being occupied by another class. There have been some air conditioning problems in a few classrooms so the library was used by one of those classes!

April 8

Dear Families,

Wednesdays are pretty busy due to the ABLL lab so I wrote our email alone!

Today we worked on our class song about litter! The kids are having a lot of fun and have come up with some great ideas on how to persuade others not to litter in our song!

We played a game to help us describe attributes of shapes. Students had to look at attribute shapes by their size, thickness, and color!

We went to the ABLL lab today but unfortunately not all of our kids got to participate. Misbehaviors have escalated greatly since Spring Break. I understand that this is typical at this time of year but I would really appreciate reinforcement and conversations of appropriate behaviors at home. We still have a lot of school left and more to learn.

News:

1. For our upcoming Zoo fieldtrip on May 7th, we are asking each family to send $3.00 so I can purchase matching t-shirts for our class. Having matching t-shirts will help us identify our class easier in a crowd. If you would like to donate extra money, please place a note on your money indicating the extra amount it is a donation.  Please send money in a baggie or envelope by next Friday. Permission forms will be sent home soon!
2. Please send a box of crayons for your child. A lot of our kids are having to share now.
3. Save the date! On May 8th you are invited to a picnic during our lunch at 12:20-1:10! Mark your calendars! I will send more information soon!

Dear Families,
We started writing a song about an Earth problem! (Min) We are seeing that there are lots of ways we can write to persuade someone to do something!
We practiced measuring with our feet in math. (Colton) We used nonstandard and standard feet and compared our measurements.
We made a flip book of a living thing and a nonliving thing! (Khai)

Dear Families,
We wrote about our weekend this morning! (Xianna)
We practiced using the diagraph CK at the end of words! (Aairel)
We worked on adding and subtracting. (Chanakya) This was very difficult for a lot of our kids. Please practice adding and subtracting in fun ways at home to help them remember this skill!
We learned about two plants that live in freshwater! (Matt)

April 3

Dear Families,
We started our day with a visit from Mr. Stuart, Gage's dad! He brought us our donuts and read us a story about Pete the Cat celebrating Easter!
We practiced listening for beginning blends in words. Identifying blends has been a focus this week.
We wrote about something that happens in Spring and illustrated our writing.
We talked about a standard foot and found out there are 12 inches in a standard foot. Students compared a standard foot to the cutout of their feet from yesterday!
We had a visit from Mrs. Bird from the organization called Junior Achievement! She is a volunteer that will teach our kids about money and business for the next 5 weeks!
We ended the day going to library and getting new books!

Dear Families,
We read about different eggs! (Chanakya) 
We saw that eggs can be different shapes, sizes, and colors just like seeds can be!
In math we measured the length of our table with our feet! (Matt) We traced our foot on a piece of construction paper to do this easier!
We looked at our tree seedling and moss! (Dillan) We found out that a moss is a type of plant without roots and that seedlings have narrow leaves that look like needles!
We reviewed class expectations throughout the day today. I appreciate all the reinforcement at home!

Dear Families,
What a busy day today turned out to be so I am writing our email!
Today students made another Earth day sign in writing workshop about an Earth problem! They wrote a reason their readers should listen this time which they realized could help them persuade their readers to listen better!
We reviewed how to weigh objects using a pan balance. To help reinforce this skill do Home Link 3-12!
We took our Spring pictures. We did not go to the ABLL lab because our picture time was delayed. 
We ended the day talking about seeds and reviewing how seeds grow!
