Dear Families,
In writing workshop, we made a poster! (Miguel) Students designed a poster about an Earth problem!
We used cubes to measure the length of objects! (Xianna)
Do math link 3-7 for extra practice!
We talked about seeds. 
Today we started planting our seeds! (Daniel)

Dear Families,
I am leaving a little early this afternoon for a teacher training so I am sending our email now!
Today we started to talk about Easter.
We practiced listening for initial sounds in words!
We made a class list of earth problems. Students will start writing about ways we can solve earth problems in writing workshop by expressing their opinions!
This afternoon we will take a walk outside to observe living and non-living things!

Dear Families,
Today we talked about colors and discussed how colors make us feel. 
It was neat to see all of the different responses! For example, some of our kids said red made them feel angry or mad, while others said red makes them feel happy or excited!
We reviewed how having questions about our stories was important and helps us learn.
We practiced sounding out words to write them correctly.
We wrote about rainy days in writing workshop and illustrated a rainy scene to go with our stories!
We talked about weight in math and practiced weighing objects on a balance.  We saw heavy objects make the balance go down and lighter objects make the balance go up!
We watched a video about rainbows before we went to library!
It was a great day!

Please return report card envelopes signed on Monday if you still have it!
Next Wednesday is Spring pictures!
Next Thursday is a late start day!

Dear Families,
We had a bad weather drill this morning. (Jesus) We practiced what we would do at school if we had a tornado. The kids did a great job!
We got to write more in our stories! (Nicole) Starting our sentences with capitals, putting spaces between our words, and ending our sentences with an ending mark is practiced daily.
We talked about height in math! We had to find something that was shorter or taller than us! (Khai)
We got to color a rainbow to look like us! (Aairel) We were able to see that we are uniquely special!

Reminders:
Report cards are going home today. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Our class non-fiction book that was published and bought is going home today!! If you did not order a book, an order form is in your child's folder. I am not taking orders but you can follow the directions to order the book online.

Dear Families,
Since we are starting to learn how to use our opinions in our writing, we read the story Tea Party Rules and listened to find out the main characters opinion in our story.
The main character had a lot of opinions on how to have a good tea party. (Min)
We talked about capacity in math to see how much can go inside a container. (Colton) Do Math link 1-7 to practice measuring capacity at home! We saw today that big containers hold more than small containers!
We went to the ABLL lab! (Ester)
We talked about clouds and got to make 3 different clouds out of a cottonball! (Gage)

Dear Families,
We recorded our questions about rain and the water cycle on our reading chart. (Rowan)
In writing we could pick to write a new non-fiction book or a time when story. (Cerenity) We used our opinions to decide what kind of story we would write! 
We learned that our opinions are not facts! (Ja'Von)
In math we talked about measurement.
We learned we need to put the ends of objects together to find out which one is longer or shorter. (Lily)
We reviewed the water cycle on our diagrams. (Do)

Dear Families,
We learned about the water cycle. (Joshua)
We shared our time when stories with our friends! (Do) We also cleaned out our writing workshop folders.
We used a rainbow to find ways to add up to 10! (Alyssa)
We also reviewed diagraphs sh, th, wh, ch, and ck during word work time! (Rowan)
Today was a great day back together!

Note about Snacks:
Snacks are not mandatory. If you choose to send a snack please send healthy snacks only. Cookies, cupcakes, and candy will be sent back home uneaten. Please no juice either since it is hard to clean up carpet spills. Thanks so much for your cooperation!

In writing workshop, we checked to see if our sentences had capitals in the right place. (Chanakya) Sometimes we are forgetting to put them at the beginning of our sentences!
We got to go out for recess! (Daniel)
Today we played a game to make 2 digit numbers. (Eboni) Then students found the larger number!
We talked about Spring! (Xianna)

We are learning about St. Patrick's Day this week! (Aairel) Today we focused talking about Ireland.
We made a rainbow craft with a pot of gold! (Gage)
We practiced adding and had to find the missing numbers to make a number sentence. (Min)
In writing workshop we made sure our sentences had ending marks! (Khai)
Today was a great day!

We wrote about Dr. Seuss. (Min) We used words that start with every letter at the beginning of his name to describe him!
We practiced adding today! (Eboni) We also made 2 digit numbers by finding the number in the ones and tens place.
We read the story Horton Hears a Who! (Gage)
We made Horton's big ears! (Xianna)

*Book fair will be open in building E commons until March 13. You are welcome to take your child until then. Please do not send money to school since we will NOT go anymore as a class. Our day to shop was Monday!

Dear Families,
Today was Read Across America Day!
We got to go to the book fair together! (Alyssa) 
We also had DEAR time! (Rowan) We dropped everything and read for an hour! 
Since I dressed like Pete the Cat today, I read a lot of stories about Pete the Cat! See my picture attached!
For math, we closed our eyes and tried to find a number on our big number grid! (Chanakya) A partner tried to help by giving us directions!
We made a hat like the cat wore in Cat in the Hat! (Daniel)
