Curriculum Highlights:
* Word Work (Spelling)— We will finish learning the remaining letters this month! I encourage you to regularly check that your child can identify all letters and letter sounds!
*Writing Students have been busy writing independently using various writing tools such as name charts, abc charts, and the word wall! We are focusing a lot on writing conventions (using capitals at the beginning of sentences, spaces between words, and an ending mark at the end) and  getting better at stretching out words (like a rubber band) to help them write words. Please continue helping your child practice saying words slowly, listening to each part of the words, and write the letters that they hear!
*Math—We are continuing our math unit on Operations and Algebraic Thinking. Adding, subtracting, and decomposing numbers are math skills we are focusing on in this unit.  Please help your child practice identifying and writing numbers 0-20. Remember counting to 100 is our end of the year goal! See how high your child can count by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s!
*Reading— We will use various Holiday stories this month to practice retelling stories, to make personal connections to the stories we read, and to learn story elements such as a main character, setting and a plot that involves resolving a problem. Good readers learn to recognize and ask questions about this basic story grammar. Please read 20 minutes daily with your child and ask questions about the story to see how well they understood the book!

Class expectation:
We are talking about treating others the way we want to be treated. Learning how to use our words and actions kindly is a way we can show respect to others and understand how this can have a positive impact on others. Please continue this conversation at home with your child!
**************************************************
Homework:
*Help your child log on to RAZ kids at http://www.raz-kids.com/login/kpandov for a fun way to have them read for 20 minutes!
*Please read above for some ideas of activities you can do with your child at home for extra practice.
*Sight word flash cards: Please keep these in your child’s backpack and read over the cards that are NOT in the rubberband DAILY! If your child doesn’t know the word, say it for them and move on.
*Family Craft: Be on the lookout for our holiday snowflake and piece of construction paper that went home! You can decorate the snowflake any way you want! Sequins, stickers, glitter, and any other kind of material can be glued on it! Make sure to write a name of a holiday that your family celebrates and how you celebrate that holiday with your family. Please return these promply so they can be displayed!
