Dear Families,
Lyla showed us some things from home since she is our Trojan of the week! (Gage)
We talked about features we have been finding in our nonfiction stories! (Colton) Some are visual features that we look at and some are text features that we read!
We talked about our teeth and how to brush them to keep them clean! (Nicole)
We practiced writing numbers and finding numbers on our charts again. (Daniel)

Dear Families,
Today we learned about the vowels i and u! (Do)
This week we are learning how to be healthy! (Khariana)
We looked for numbers and patterns on our own 100 charts! (Chanakya)
We took fall pictures today!

September 26

Dear Families,
We ran today at our Jog-a-thon! (Khai) Everyone got a new shirt! It was a bit hot but the kids still had fun exercising!
We got a new student name Khariana! We are excited to have a new friend!
We learned about the protein group. (Ester) It is the meat group! 
We finished our food books using our homework food pictures! They are hanging in the hall!
We went to the library and got a book! (Min) Please make sure library books stay in your backpacks!

*Check blue folders! They are full today! Flashcard bags, October family homework, and October menus are a few things in them!
*Remember picture day is on Monday. Send picture order forms & money if you are buying pictures!

Dear Families,
When we got to school we went to recess! (Makiah)
Today we practiced writing complete sentences on our boards. (Miguel)
We used calculators again! (Jesus) We used the + sign to make numbers big and - sign to make numbers small.
We talked about the dairy group! (Rowan) We found out cows help us have this food group!
We had time to go to Big Centers but not enough time for Reading Centers. (Alyssa)

Reminders:
Our Jog-a-thon is tomorrow so please remember your donation envelopes and PLEASE NO SANDALS!

Flashcards are going home tomorrow! In the flashcard bag, you will find a note with directions on how to use flashcards! Basically I need you to have your child read the words that are not in the rubberband DAILY! I will do the same here at school.  I will remove words when your child can read them to me and unwrap new words for practice. Please don't remove words or unwrap rubberbands AND please keep flashcard bags in your child's backpack DAILY! Thanks for your help!

September 23

Dear Families,
We practiced writing m and n correctly. (Joshua) A lot of our kids write from the bottom line up. They are learning to write from the top (sky line) to the bottom (grass line)!
We looked for the word a today in our morning poem! (Xianna)
We went to centers. (Matt)
We practiced using calculators! (Colton) The kids had a lot of fun with them!
We talked about fruits! (Lyla) We found out that fruits give us vitamins!

Don't forget to send a picture of your child to school!
Picture order forms are coming home today!  Picture day is on Monday!
Jog-a-thon is on Friday! Please send envelopes back to school by Friday!

September 22

Dear Families,
We are talking about eating healthy foods! (Ja'Von)
Today we learned about the grain group. (Gage) It is also known as the bread group!
Students started using Nutrition homework pictures in our new food book! They were so excited!
We are now learning about the letters m and n. (Lily)
We practiced counting up from other numbers today instead of starting at 0 or 1. (Cerenity) This was difficult for some of our kids so practicing at home would be great practice!

Dear Families,
Today we heard a story about Willy the Wolf who was really hungry. (Matt) We practiced listening and thinking so we could answer questions about the story.
We got to go to centers! (Lily)
We wrote a friends name in a complete sentence! (Ja'Von)
We got to go to the library. (Lyla) Next week we will get to check out a book!
We made a graph of our favorite colors! (Miguel) We also counted by tens.
It was a busy day!

We talked about the constitution today. (Chanakya) We found out it was written many years ago when the United States was forming. We talked about the way our lives would be today if we did not have the constitution!

We started to write our own color books in writing workshop today! (Colton) We will continue to work in these until they are done!
We practiced writing the letter b and f in our books! (Xianna)
We rolled dice and counted the dots to help us count. (Cerenity) We even practiced writing numbers. Please practice writing numbers at home for extra practice!

We are learning about colors! (Min) Check to see if your child knows them at home!
We are learning about the letters b and f this week too! (Joshua)
We began talking about nonfiction books today. (Gage) Non fiction books tell us true information.
We made a graph using our name in math. (Makiah) Some of our names are short and some are long!
We didn't get to go to big centers today because we were not making good choices. (Rowan) Today there was a lot of problems with our class not listening, following directions, and keeping our hands to ourselves. I really appreciate your support and reinforcement of appropriate behaviors at home!

We went to some of our centers! (Do)
We wrote about something we like today in writing. (Colton)
We practiced writing Ja'Von's name too. (Nicole)
We used number boards to help us count numbers. (Chanakya)
We are going to the library! (Makiah) Please keep library books in backpacks after they are read. We have talked to our kids about backpacks being the best place for our books! Students need to make sure books are back on Fridays for a new one!

*If blue folders come home empty, it means that work completed stayed at school! Please return blue folders everyday!

We played a counting game to the number 10 using a number spinner! (Matt)
We read the story How Full is Your Bucket!
We learned to be bucket fillers and not bucket dippers! (Aariel) When we are bucket dippers we make people feel sad.

We talked about the story Rainbow Fish again.We discussed how he changed in the story to become a good friend. We are still having a lot of problems with not keeping hands to ourselves. Please discuss this with your child so we can help keep our friends happy!

We learned how to use a ten frame to count up to 10. (Joshua)

Dear Families,
We are talking about how to be really good friends! ( Alyssa ) We will talk about friendship all week and how we can communicate our feelings to our friends in respectful ways.
We went to Centers today! ( Ester )
We got to make two fish after we read "Rainbow Fish". ( Lyla ) Rainbow Fish turned out to be a good friend in our story!
We counted to 100 and played counting games to 15. ( Min )
We pointed to lines on our new writing grid and learned their names. ( Colton )


Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday morning from 8:15-8:35 our kids are allowed to walk around the track for exercise before school. Please make sure they know that they are to eat breakfast first if they eat breakfast at school.
Today Jog-a-thon information went home in backpacks! Please read to see if your child will participate! Thanks!

We got a new book called Time for School. (Daniel)
Tonight is Pizza Night at Papa Johns! Proceeds go to our school!

We practiced counting to 20! (Nicole)

Today we practiced telling our stories before we wrote our stories. (Lily)
We sorted pictures of good choices and poor choices! (Cerenity) Our kids are still doing a lot of "touching" so we are talking a lot about keeping hands to ourselves. Thank you for reinforcing these appropriate behaviors at home!
